Moment of Silence

Photo essay – Each New Year’s eve this ritual is passing by, it seems as a “tradition” for years as I can remember. Before the clock strikes twelve o’clock, we all stand still for a couple of minutes. The piring natzar [“small offering scale”] as the central point in our gathering, we are standing in a circle to have a moment of silence for the past year and the year to come. What I hear is my grandmother’s voice, she is praying for all of us. [January 2010]

*The small offering scale is always accompanied with the Bible and the hymnbook (Mazmur dan Thalil)
